News Briefing about the 11th China (Beijing)
International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo

The 11th China (Beijing) International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE), which is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture, General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government and organized by CCPIT Beijing Sub-Council, is to be held from October 27th to 30th in Beijing. Now, entrusted by the Organizing Committee, I will give a brief introduction to friends and guests from the media about the general arrangement and preparations for the 11th ICCIE.
Since its inception in 2006, the ICCIE has always served the national strategy for the development of the cultural industry, given full play to the unique advantages of Beijing as the country's cultural center, international exchange center and technological innovation center, and promoted the high-end integration of national and global cultural resources, playing an important leading role in the rapid development of China’s cultural and creative industries. After ten years of cultivation and upgrading, the ICCIE has expanded its influence continuously with its brand effect becoming more and more obvious, and has become a national iconic platform for international exchange and cooperation in cultural and creative industries. The previous ten sessions attracted more than 500 governmental and industrial delegations from such international organizations as the United Nations, the WIPO, and International Animated Film Association as well as from more than 90 countries and regions to conduct cultural exchanges and discuss cooperation. More than 15 thousand domestic and foreign cultural and creative enterprises and institutions came to show their excellent featured cultural products. More than 1600 influential domestic and international renowned experts and scholars from the cultural industry and senior authoritative government officials delivered speeches at ICCIE forums. The cooperation intentions, agreements and transactions reached at the previous ten sessions had a total amount of 690.2 billion yuan.
The 11th ICCIE will be a grand event of international exchange and cooperation in cultural and creative industries against the background that “the 13th Five-year Plan” has clearly put forward that “the cultural industry has become a pillar industry of the national economy”, and China’s cultural industry has ushered in a new period of strategic opportunities. The present ICCIE, focusing on the development concept of innovation, harmony, green, open and sharing, and taking “stimulating the cultural vitality to lead the innovation of the industry” as the theme, will fully display the latest achievements of the reform and innovation of China's cultural system, with demonstrative models promoting the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure. It will highlight the new features of the industry brought by inheritance and innovation of the outstanding traditional culture and the in-depth integration of culture with science and technology, information, tourism, sports, and finance. It will promote cultural trade and investment cooperation and guide and expand cultural consumption. It will agitate cutting-edge ideas, stimulate the cultural creativity, fully carry out international cultural exchange, and promote Chinese culture going global.
1. Overall Arrangement of Activities
The 11th ICCIE will hold more than 100 activities, covering six series of comprehensive activities, exhibitions, trade promotions, forums and conferences, creative activities, and sub-venue activities. It will also build an official platform for Internet display.
Comprehensive Activities: On the opening day, the current ICCIE will hold a key-note speech session at World People's Palace Hotel. On October 28th, it will hold “the signing ceremony for key projects in cultural and creative industries” at Beijing’s Tiantai Hotel. In October, a series of activities entitled “Entering the ICCIE to see Beijing” will be conducted.
Exhibitions: The main venue for the exhibitions of the current ICCIE is still located at China International Exhibition Center (the original site) with a total area of 55,000 square meters. It will set up 20 thematic pavilions, including integrated cultural development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei; national service platform for digital content trade; Beijing local chronicles; innovation in logistics culture; press, publication, radio, film and television; quality products of cultural creation from Taiwan; antiquities and museum-related cultural and creative products; arts and crafts; cultural and creative industries cluster zones; Beijing tourism; creative design; young people’s cultural creation; modern wood art; cultural gifts and art trading; sports industry; fashion in Beijing; international cultural creation; integration of culture and economy; cultural and creative industries of various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; and Beijing subway public art.
Trade Promotions: The current ICCIE will further strengthen its transaction function to hold dozens of specialized trade promotion activities around 18 themes. These include: the publishing of series of indices of China’s cultural industry; Promotion of “Chinese Gifts” and release of “China Gift Collection”; Promotion of Animation Game Industrial Projects; Promotion of Cross-Strait Inter-city Trade Opportunities in Cultural and Creative Industries; Beijing series of events in the auction season; Promotion of Beijing’s Cooperative Projects of Integrated Cultural Development; Project Signing and Brand Promotion of Cultural Finance Innovation; Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries Cluster Zone Projects; Promotion of Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Investment and Financing Projects; Promotion of Foreign Cultural Trade Policies and Enterprises; International Promotion and Exchange for Chinese Cultural Enterprises to “Go Global”; Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industry Projects and Business Cooperation; Promotion of Collaborative Logistics Development Projects in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area; International Investment and Trade Fair of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area; Promotion of Creative Design Products (Works) by International Master Craftsmen; series of cultural and creative industry project promotions by various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; the 23rd Beijing International Exhibition Fair for Audio Equipment; and Recruitment Fair for Cultural and Creative Talents.
Forums and Conferences: The current ICCIE will hold five specialized forums. They are: International Forum on the Development of Film Industry; Beijing International Copyright Conference and China’s Music Industry; Seminar on Cultural Exchange and Cooperation between Museums in Beijing and Hong Kong; International Forum on the Development of Animation Games; and Forum on the Collaborative Development of Logistics Projects in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area. Authoritative personnel from international organizations, government departments and industrial organizations as well as experts, scholars and famous entrepreneurs in related industries will conduct face to face communication and discussion with the participants around the hot and difficult issues about the development in various fields of the cultural and creative industries.
Creative Activities: The current ICCIE will hold 10 sessions of creative activities which include: “Huali Award” Creative Design Competition of Chinese Etiquette and Leisure Products Industry; China Red Star Award for Innovative Design; Beijing College Students’ Creativity Fair; the 2016 “Arts and Crafts Cup” Beijing Traditional Arts and Crafts Design Contest; Beijing Teenage Cultural Creativity Festival; Beijing New Rural Youth Creative Design Competition; Poetic China—Mid-Autumn International Original Poetry Event at China Millennium Monument; China 3D Technology and Innovation Festival; International Seminar on Copyright Innovation Service; and the first Seminar on Cultural Tourism.
Sub-Venue Activities: The current ICCIE will set up 18 sub-venues at convention and exhibition centers throughout Beijing. Among them, the 10 specialized sub-venues are: the 2016 Annual Conference on China’s Internet Culture; Sub-venue of Beijing Ceramic Art Museum; 2016 Beijing·International Expo of Chinese Cultural Relics; the 12th Anniversary Exhibition of China Realist School Paintings; the 2016 Guardian·Fine Art Asia Antique Art Week; Taihu International Book Fair; the Comic Animation Carnival; China International Expo of Enterprises’ Brand Culture; 2016 Beijing International Creative Agriculture Fair; and the first Photo Exhibition by Diplomatic Envoys. The 8 sub-venues distributed in various districts of Beijing will hold more than 50 rich and colorful events in Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fangshan, Shunyi, Daxing and Yanqing.
2. Main Characteristics of the Present ICCIE
The present ICCIE will showcase the new face and new trend of the development of China’s cultural industry, presenting six characteristics.
1) Gathering resources of excellent traditional culture to show the charm of Chinese culture
The present ICCIE will give an intensive display of traditional cultural products of intangible cultural heritage and time-honored enterprises. The arts and crafts pavilion at the main exhibition venue will give a concentrated display of award winning quality products of the 2016 “Arts and Crafts Cup” Beijing Traditional Arts and Crafts Design Contest, including jade carvings, cloisonné, carved lacquer, filigree inlay, gold-lacquer inlay, ceramics, glass ware, Beijing embroidery, silver enamel, and hand dyeing. Among them, the carved lacquer work “Carved red lacquer screen: Beautiful scenery of the Summer Palace” by a national master has a style of grand atmosphere of majestic momentum, showing smooth and skilled carving technique and fine and clever craftsmanship, reflecting the highest level of contemporary carved lacquer art in China. The pavilion of Beijing tourism will invite masters of intangible cultural heritage including carved lacquer, woodcut New Year paintings, painted facial makeup, cloisonné, figurines, Beijing gourd painting, and interior painted snuff bottles to give live performance, with a view to carrying forward the fine traditional culture heritage. The pavilion of Beijing local chronicles, which appears in ICCIE for the first time, will showcase the first round compiling results about Beijing from such aspects as the weather, municipal administration, world cultural heritage, culture and art, displaying the spectacular “Chronicles of Beijing” that contains everything. There, the three-dimensional electronic sand table, the old Beijing telephone booth, and the movie theater of local scenes will allow visitors to enjoy the rich historical and cultural heritage of Beijing. The IHAC·China International Handicraft Village will show the innovative results of China’s handicraft culture and industrial cooperation. Visitors may have on-site communication and interaction with domestic and foreign handicraft masters and designers so as to experience the charm of traditional Chinese arts and crafts culture. At the pavilion of quality products of cultural creation from Taiwan, which is attending the ICCIE for the 10th time, more than 130 enterprises will bring featured cultural products including quality craft products, fashion design works, digital content derivatives, museum derivatives, aboriginal cultural products, and goods of original creation to present a concentrated appearance. Anhui pavilion will highlight six series of cultural and creative products whose design is based on museum collections, letting the museum of cultural relics come alive. Guizhou pavilion will showcase products with ethnic characteristics including combs for ladies from noble families, Duyun Maojian tea, Yi lacquer ware of Dafang county, Buyi five-rank clothing, batik and Miao embroidery. Guangxi pavilion will focus on displaying cultural products with rich local characteristics including Nixing pottery from Qinzhou, Liupu tea from Wuzhou, and Lijiang River stone from Guilin.
2) Focusing on the collaborative development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area to promote regional cooperation of cultural industries
The present ICCIE will highlight the latest achievements of collaborative development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area to facilitate integrative regional development. The pavilion of integrated cultural development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will integrate resources of the cultural industry of the three places to showcase in a concentrated manner such contents as the intangible cultural heritage, animation, performing arts, works of art, cultural tourism and industrial parks, so as to promote exchange and cooperation between cultural enterprises of the three places. The pavilion of arts and crafts will hold a joint exhibition of Beijing Tianjin Hebei arts and crafts to show the masterpieces by renowned craftsmen of the three places. At the pavilion of antiquities and museums, the project of “Masters Touring the Yan State” created by the Museum of Xizhou Yandu Site of Beijing in collaboration with the Capital Museum, Tianjin Museum, Hebei Museum, and Langfang Museum will showcase the regional culture which features “regional integration with the same cultural vein” of the three places. At the pavilion of press, publication, radio, film and television, jjj.qq.com will promote, between the lines, cooperation projects of the integrated development of the three places. At the second International Investment and Trade Fair of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area cum Promotion of international cooperation of advantageous industries of the three places, Tianjin Free Trade Zone, Binhai New District, and Zhengding New District of Shijiazhuang in Hebei will hold on-site promotions to invite domestic and foreign investment. At the Forum on the Collaborative Development of Logistics Projects in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area and the Promotion of Collaborative Logistics Development Projects in the three places, representatives and experts from e-businesses, banking and financial services, Internet+logistics, cold chain logistics, international logistics enterprises will introduce their successful cases. Executives from Atobo Logistics and SF Express will conduct discussions and exchanges on such topics as “How to break the last mile of logistics”. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce will issue “the plan of one-hour ring of fresh agricultural products around the capital city” to help with the development of the integration of Beijing Tianjin Hebei region.
3) Highlighting “culture+” to promote the cross-sector integration
The present ICCIE will showcase such new business forms as audio-visual network, mobile multimedia, digital publishing, animation and games to promote cross-sector integration of culture with technology, information, tourism, sports, finance, etc. The pavilion of press, publication, radio, film and television will set up a VR experience area for the first time to enable the audience to feel the visual impact of virtual reality technology, and present a full range of display of the latest cultural products and services featuring the integrated development since the establishment of Beijing New Media Group. The pavilion of antiquities and museum-related cultural and creative products will focus on the latest results of culture+technology brought by museums throughout the country. More than 100 award-winning pieces (sets) of cultural and creative products from "National Exhibition of Cultural and Creative Products” such as the “Ten Views of the West Lake” series, the “Anti-Japanese War Memorial” series, and 42 high-tech cultural museum product projects that won the nomination of “Top Ten High-tech Cultural Museum Products” such as the “interactive multimedia publishing system for museums” and the “cultural relics protection packaging box” will make a concentrated appearance. The pavilion of sports industry will showcase such domestically leading products and technologies as dry snowshoes, curling stones, snow machine, simulation ice technology, etc., creating a multivariate ice and snow industry chain to expand the market supply of the ice and snow sports industry. The pavilion of Beijing tourism will not only bring traditional delicacies by Quanjude, Sunnyum, and Lao She Teahouse, but also show such outdoor tourism business formats as caravan, wooden house, and camping area to promote the upgrading of tourism consumption. The Sichuan pavilion will bring new creative products featuring the combination of brocade, embroidery, and Qiang embroidery with the Internet. Shifang, Sichuan will focus on cultural tourism to enhance the experience economy.
4) Stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship to help foster new momentum
The present ICCIE will push original creativity to create an atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship. Award winning quality products of “Huali Award”, “Arts and Crafts Cup” Design Contest, Beijing College Students’ Creativity Fair, “Beijing Gift” Tourism Goods Contest, and Beijing New Rural Youth Creative Design Competition will all be put on display. The pavilion of Beijing tourism will focus on the display of hundreds of newly developed quality “Beijing gifts”, and award winning works from 2016 "Beijing Gift" tourism goods contest. The pavilion of 2016 creative and innovative achievements by Beijing college students will put on display the 40 works that won the title of “Creative Stars” from the 6th Creativity Fair. Among them, “Creative Box AR Big Data Platform”, “Green Environmental Protection Dust Inhibitor”, and “Fast Detection Based on Portable Raman Spectrometer” will attract visitors by strong innovation ability, high technology content and broad market prospect. At the pavilion of creative works by Beijing youth, “urban balcony gardening”, and the Manchu souvenirs of the Gift Park of the Na family will show the audience the vitality brought to agriculture by creativity. The pavilion of creative design will focus on the display of products of Chinese original design in energy-saving, environmental protection, furniture, ceramic art, VR, artificial intelligent robots, etc., enabling visitors to have on-site experience that “good design is readily available”. The sub-venues in the 8 districts of Beijing, namely Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fangshan, Shunyi, Daxing, and Yanqing, will hold more than 50 rich and colorful cultural and creative events to share the achievements of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. Among them, Dongcheng District will, from such aspects as art design and creative life, showcase “Hutong creative factories” with “light creation” jewelry culture, “canonical form of the blue dragon” themed creative bazaar, folding and crossing—future urban salon on the blue dragon top, and soft light selfie coffee cart, etc. The Happy Valley Halloween Joy Festival, Beijing international photography week, the second landscape culture festival, Lang Park Vintage International Creative Cultural Festival, and Panjiayuan fine works of art appraisal in Chaoyang District will be on at the same time. 2016 Zhongguancun·Beijing International Creative Festival and the seventh Cao Xueqin Culture and Arts Festival in Haidian District, and the super hive "smart new media" sub-venue in Fangshan District will be open to the public.
5) Striving to push quality cultural and creative projects to unfold opportunities of industrial cooperation
The present ICCIE will focus on building a platform for project cooperation and exchange, pushing quality projects. Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industry Projects and Business Cooperation will focus on promoting such cultural and creative industrial projects as cultural industry cluster zones, animation industry, industrial design, digital content, and cultural tourism. Promotion of Beijing’s Cooperative Projects of Integrated Cultural Development will focus on the introduction of 20 projects of cross-sector integration of culture with technology, education, sports, tourism and finance. Promotion of Animation Game Industrial Projects will focus on the promotion of negotiation of such projects as film and television animation, online games, mobile games, desktop games, digital TV, digital music and information services to seek cooperation. Such featured cultural projects as the national experimentation area of cultural industry, port of innovation and entrepreneurship for international talents, Cultural and Creative Park of Beijing Film Academy, Holiday Square at Fun Capital, “Huilongguan+ (Return Home)” community for innovation and entrepreneurship, Shougang’s new high-end industry comprehensive service area, Badachu cultural scenic spots in Western Hills, World Tourism City Experience Center, the red culture of Cao Xueqin’s old home in the Western Hills, the three hills and five gardens of the royal garden culture, and the culture of Sino-French communication at Bussiere Garden will make a concentrated appearance at the ICCIE to invite domestic and foreign investment.
6) Enhancing the level of open cooperation to promote foreign cultural trade
The present ICCIE will further intensify overseas participation to build a trading platform for cultural products and services. 2016 Beijing featured international cultural exhibition will show the thematic cultures rich in national characteristics from such countries as Russia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Croatia, and Azerbaijan. International Promotion and Exchange for Chinese Cultural Enterprises to “Go Global” will invite representatives from embassies and consulates of nearly 20 countries including the United States, Britain, Australia, Brazil, and Kazakhstan to promote their regional investment environment and economic and trade policies, providing opportunities and platforms for overseas investment enterprises to promote international cooperation. At 2016 Promotion of Creative Design Products (Works) by International Master Craftsmen, designers from the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the United States, South Korea, and Greece will conduct in-depth exchanges and negotiations. At the Guardian·Fine Art Asia Antique Art Week, nearly 40 well-known art institutions and galleries from more than 10 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, France, and Hong Kong will bring more than 1000 pieces of fine art for the audience. The first Photo Exhibition by Diplomatic Envoys will, through the photo works by diplomatic enjoys from countries around the world, show places of historic interest and scenic beauty, local customs and practices, and natural landscape all over the world. It will also focus on promoting the cultures of some countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”.
Friends from the news media, at present, the preparatory work is progressing smoothly. The promotional work for the main exhibition venue is basically completed, with a total of more than 1800 enterprises from 16 countries and regions participating. Delegations from such international organizations as UNCTAD, IFRRO, and BSA Software Alliance, as well as those from more than 30 countries and regions including the United States, France, Britain, Italy, Greece, Mexico, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Brazil, and Switzerland will participate in ICCIE exhibition and other activities. 23 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and cities separately designated in the state plan will organize delegations to participate, including Tianjin, Hebei, Shanghai, Shanxi, Anhui, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Tibet, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang. Project solicitation has entered the final docking stage.
